Ram-Headed Sphinx Statue, Museum Reproduction of the Karnak Avenue Guardians

Ram-Headed Sphinx Statue, Museum Reproduction of the Karnak Avenue Guardians

This statue reproduces a ram-headed sphinx (criosphinx), a guardian form combining a lion's body with a ram's head that represented the god Amun. Rows of these criosphinxes once lined the processional way linking the Luxor and Karnak temples, watching over the great Opet Festival processions as symbols of divine protection and royal authority.
